President Biden established the first White House Office of Environmental Justice. The Office of Environmental Justice, which is housed within the White House Council on Environmental Quality, is tasked with coordinating federal agency efforts to address current and historic environmental injustices.

Appointed in May 2022, Dr. Jalonne L. White-Newsome serves as the first Federal Chief Environmental Justice Officer, where she advises the Chair of the Council on Environmental Quality on environmental justice and leads the White House's first Office of Environmental Justice.
